The need for reading glasses as you get older is called presbyopia. When you have LASIK or PRK, you and your doctor may decide to leave one eye slightly nearsighted; this is monovision.

Generally, monovision is chosen by people who have already experienced monovision correction with contact lenses. Monovision reduces your dependence on glasses for near-tasks such as reading music, scanning a menu or article, or viewing the computer screen but may not work as well for reading fine print or reading for a prolonged period of time.
